Buttons

FF/RW  Play    Stop   Rotate  Song

FF/RW - Fast Forward / Rewind Button: To fast forward or rewind through a song, click and hold the left mouse button down. Then drag the mouse left or right. Let up the left mouse button to start the song in the new position. You can also fast forward and rewind with the arrow keys. The RIGHT or LEFT arrow keys move the ball ahead or back by 1 bounce (syllable). Then, press the DOWN arrow key to start the ball and music at that point. You can also press the UP arrow key to cancel the operation, and the ball will jump to where the music is at that time.

Play Button: (or UP Arrow Key) Click the Play button to start the song playing. While the song is playing, the button changes into a Pause button. That is, click the Play button to start, pause, and restart the song.

Stop Button: (or END Key) This button stops the song and returns the ball to the beginning of the song.

Rotate Button: This button only appears for songs that have more than one panel, such as "There Is A Tavern In The Town". Click this button to rotate the panels, and bring a new panel to the top.

Song Button: This button is actually 3 buttons in one. The left side of the button (or PAGE UP key) will stop the current song, and play the previous song in the song list. The right side of the button (PAGE DOWN key) plays the next song in the list. The middle part of the button brings up the song list selection window.

Shift and Control Key Effects With Buttons

Pressing and holding the shift, control, or both keys down before clicking one of the buttons changes their actions.

Shift-FF/RW Button: Hold the shift key down while dragging the FF/RW button to go through the song faster (coarse FF/RW).

Control-FF/RW Button: While dragging the FF/RW button, if you run off your mouse pad, hold the control key down and drag the mouse back, then let the control key up. The control key cancels the FF/RW effect so you can reset the mouse position.

Shift-Control-FF/RW Button: This will change the Tempo of the song 1% at a time. (Changes volume in Web version)

Shift-Play Button: This sets the "Play Marker" position at the current position in the song.

Control-Play Button: This will start the song at the Play Marker position set with the Shift-Play button.

Shift-Control-Play Button: This starts the song in "Record Mode" to record new bounce timings when creating a new Diversi-Tune song. See the detailed Recording Instructions for more information.

Shift-Stop Button: This will turn off or turn back on the display of messages to the right of the buttons.

Control-Stop Button: Turns the sound off, and back on, for a song.

Shift-Control-Stop Button: Brings up the song words edit window for creating new Diversi-Tune songs. See the detailed Recording Instructions for more information.

Shift-Song Button: This modifies the button to go to the first, or the last song in the song list (left and right sides of button). For the center of the button, this reloads the song (useful for playing Audio CD's if CD player wasn't ready).

Control-Song Button: In the Java Applet Web Version only, this moves the Apple to its own frame if it is embedded in a browser window.

File View Wrap Controls Setup Tempo Transpose Help Unregistered

File

*File: If you see an * here, this means that the song has been changed, but hasn't been saved. Any operation which would cause you to loose your changes will produce this message: "WARNING!!! Current Song Not Saved". The warning clears the *File indicator, so that you can complete the operation simply by doing it twice.

Open: This loads a single file and adds it to the song list. The file may be a midi file (.mid), a karaoke file (.kar), or a Diversi-Tune CD Audio file (.dtcd). You may also load a new Diversi-Tune Song List file (.dtso). Then the current song list will be cleared and the new list contained in the .dtso file will become the song list. If you want to append the .dtso file to the current song list, set this option in the Setup menu.

Save Song As: This option saves the current song, which is either a ".mid", ".kar", ".mp3", or ".dtcd" file. Note that all Diversi-Tune information is ASCII Text, which will be embedded within the file. You can see, and edit this text information by clicking shift-control-STOP. ".mid" and ".kar" files remain the same, except a single text "event" with the Diversi-Tune information, is added to the beginning of the file. You can still play these files with other .kar or .mid players. To signify that Diversi-Tune words are embedded in the file, Save Song As suggests a file ending with "_.kar" or "_.mid". See the information on Karaoke files for more information.

Load Words From .dtwd File: This option replaces the current words in the song with new words from the ".dtwd" words file you select.

Save Words As .dtwd File: This option saves the words in the song into a ".dtwd" file. This is useful for creating ".dtwd" files from Audio CD "dtcd" files to add words to MP3 files created from that Audio CD.

Clear Current Song List: This also closes the song list selection window, if it is visible.

Show Track Names: This opens a window which lists the track names in the midi file. Not all midi files have tracks, and not all tracks have names, so you may see "No Track Names Found", or track numbers without names. The track number, then the midi channel number of the first note in the track is displayed. This option is most useful for figuring out what are the melody tracks for melody muting (see Advanced/Recording instructions).

New Audio CD: This option is used to create a new ".dtcd" file. See the information on Audio CDs.

Filename: Note that the name of the current file now appears at the bottom of the file menu in bold. Bold menu "options" are for information only. They don't do anything if you select them.

View

Full Screen: This option expands Diversi-Tune to full screen size, without the buttons at the bottom. You can still control Diversi-Tune using the keyboard commands.

Full Screen (With Controls): This expands Diversi-Tune to fill the screen, but leaves the buttons visible.

Font Options: These options let you choose the default font and style.

Override Song Font: Choose this option to ignore the font and style specified inside the song (if any).

Turn Off Screen Saver / Turn On Screen Saver: While Diversi-Tune is running, your screen saver may activate while you're watching. To prevent this, choose the Turn Off Screen Saver option. Note that only one of these options is enabled. The option that matches the current screen saver status will be disabled (grayed out).

Wrap

The size of the words that Diversi-Tune displays is set so that the longest line in the song will fit in the Diversi-Tune window. If the words are too small, you can set the Word Wrap to break the lines at a certain number of characters with the Wrap menu option. A setting of between 20 and 40 characters should make the words large enough to read.

Controls

Repeat: Set this option to ON to play the song list repeatedly. The menu option for the current repeat status is disabled (grayed out).

Auto Start: Set this option to OFF to stop at the end of the current song. With this option ON (default condition), the next song in the list will start automatically at the end of the current song. When you manually start a new song, i.e. by clicking the next song button, or Play List from the song list window, the new song will start playing if Auto Start is on, OR if the last song was playing.

Delay Between Songs: Sets the time delay between songs when playing a song list.

Melody Mute: If the melody tracks have been specified in a .MID or .KAR file, this option will mute these tracks. Note that the song starts over each time you change the mute status. The melody may also be partially muted. For more information on how to specify melody mute tracks, see the Advanced(Recording) instructions. Note that all Diversi-Tune songs with melody tracks were re-uploaded on July 17, 2002. To update the songs, download s.zip again.

Setup

Add Songs To List: With this option set (grayed out), when you add a song with the File/Open or by double clicking a .mid, .kar, or .dtcd file in Windows Explorer, the song is added to the end of the song list, but the current song keeps playing.

Add And Play Songs: Set this option to immediately play a song when you add it with File/Open or by double clicking a .mid, .kar, or .dtcd file in Windows Explorer. The current song will be stopped, and the new song will start immediately.

New Song List Replaces Old: When you open a Diversi-Tune song list (.dtso file), the current song list will be cleared, and the song currently playing will stop. The first song in the new list will then start immediately.

Append New Song List To Old: With this menu option set (grayed out), opening a new .dtso file will append all the songs in the new file to the current song list.

Use This Ball As Default: If you see a ball image that you want to use all the time, choose this option. There are a lot of new ball images in the Children's songs section of the "dt.dtso" song list in the "s.zip" file.

Restore Normal Ball: This restores the normal yellow and red "soccer" ball.

Use All These Colors As Default: This option sets all the Diversi-Tune colors of the current to be the default colors which are displayed if no colors are specified in the song. In multi-panel songs, the default panel colors are the ones from the first panel. To use panel colors from another panel, first double click that panel so it is the only one showing.

Use These Panel Colors As Default: Sets only the current first panel colors as the default colors. The main colors, i.e. the color behind all the panels, remain unchanged. Use this if you want to set the main background color first (see above), and then set a different panel default color.

Restore Normal Colors: Restores all colors to their standard colors (shades of blue).

Use Song Ball & Colors: If a song specifies its own ball image, and colors, they will appear with this option set (normal condition).

Defaults Override Song & Ball Colors: This option allows you to always use the default ball and colors, and ignore any ball images and custom colors saved in a song. Normally, you should not use this option, but if you want to make all songs you play look exactly the same, this option is useful.

Reset .mid .kar .mp3 Players: This option resets your .mid, .kar and .mp3 file players to the old players that you were using when Diversi-Tune was installed (if Diversi-Tune is your current mid or kar player). Then it asks you if you want to make Diversi-Tune your .mid, .kar, and .mp3 player, like it did in the initial installation.

Note that if you click "NO" then you will have to start Diversi-Tune by double clicking Divtune.exe, or a .dtso or .dtcd file. However, once Diversi-Tune is running, then it temporarily becomes your .mid, .kar, and mp3 player. That is, from Windows Explorer, double click Divtune.exe to start Diversi-Tune. Then you may double click any .mid, .kar, or mp3 file and Diversi-Tune will add that song to the song list.

Tempo

Use these options to set the tempo slower or faster by 10%, or reset the tempo to normal (100%). For finer adjustment of tempo, hold the Shift and Control keys down and drag the FF/RW button. Note that tempo changes only work for .mid or .kar files. The tempo is reset to normal when you start a new song.

Transpose

These menu options let you transpose the key of the song up or down by up to an octave, in 1/2 step increments. Note that this also restarts the song from the beginning. The transpose value remains in effect when you play a new song.

Help

The help section simply displays the current version number in bold type. Choosing a bold Help "option" doesn't perform any action. For the latest Diversi-Tune documentation, see http://www.divtune.com .

Check For Update: You must be connected to the Internet for this to work. Diversi-Tune will tell you if there is a newever version available. If there is, the next option, "Get Update", is enabled.

Get Update: After you Check For Update as described above, this menu option is enabled if there is an available update. Choose this option to automatically download and install the new update. The old Divtune.exe will be renamed to "Reinstall_oldversion#_Divtune.exe in case you need to go back to the old version (hopefully, you won't!).

Unregistered

The Registration menu option brings up the registration screen. If you click "Yes" at the bottom of this screen, the main menu bar changes from "Unregistered" to "Registered". This is the only difference between an unregistered and a registered program. There are no registration codes, nag screens, or disabled features. We trust you! To pay your $35 registration fee, please see the Registration Page

Song Lists

Creating Song Lists

Diversi-Tune keeps a list of songs in memory. To see this list, click the center of the "Song" button to bring up the Song List window. The current song list is shown in the left panel of the Song List window.

You can run Diversi-Tune from Windows Explorer by double clicking the Divtune.exe file icon. This will start Diversi-Tune with an empty song list. You can also start Diversi-Tune by double clicking a ".dtso" or ".dtcd" file. If you've selected Diversi-Tune as your ".mid" or ".kar" player during installation, then you can also start the program by double clicking these files. While Diversi-Tune is running, you can go back to Windows Explorer and double click more ".mid", ".kar", ".dtcd" or ".dtso" files. These files will be added to the Song List in memory (.dtso files optionally will replace the song list in memory, or append to the song list depending on the Setup menu option setting).

So, to create a song list, just double click a series of song files (.mid, .kar, .dtcd, .dtso) from Windows Explorer. Windows Explorer also allows you to select more than one file by holding the control key, or shift key down, and clicking a file. After clicking all the files you want, press the ENTER key (or double click the last file). All the selected files will be added to the Diversi-Tune song list (may take a few seconds).

When a song is added to the list from Windows Explorer, the Diversi-Tune icon will change to yellow for a few seconds to indicate that the song was added. The song list window then updates to show the new songs at the bottom of the list in the left panel.

You can also add songs to the list using the Diversi-Tune File/Open menu option (selecting only one song at a time). You can't delete songs from the Song List once they are added. You must clear the list and start over (see File/Clear Song List).

Selecting Songs To Play

You select songs to play using the Song List Window. Bring up the window by clicking the center of the Song Button. The left panel shows the complete song list, while the right panel shows the currently selected songs.

The song list displayed in the left panel may contain an "Index" of categories. Clicking category in the Index moves you to that category with selecting a song. Then, clicking on a category selects all the songs in the category. Clicking on a song name selects that single song. Note that the songs about to be selected change color as you move the mouse over them.

When selecting songs from the left panel, you can hold the SHIFT key down to select a group of songs from the last song selected to the current song under the mouse pointer.

When you select a song from the left panel, it appears in the right panel at the "Insert Point". Normally the insert point is at the end of the list of selected songs in the right panel. If you select a song from the left panel more than once, the corresponding song names in the right panel all change colors to indicate which songs are duplicated.

Once you have selected a group of songs, you can then move the mouse to the right panel to change your selections. You click a song in the right panel to unselect it. The song under the mouse will change color (to black) to indicate that it will be unselected if you click it.

The song "Insert Point" described above is indicated by an orange ">>" symbol. You can move this insert point by holding the SHIFT key down and clicking a song list of selected songs in the right panel. Future songs you select (from the left panel) will be inserted at this point in the selected song list.

To move the Insertion Point to the end of the list, SHIFT-click just below the right panel. Similarly, SHIFT-click just above the right panel to move the Insertion Point to the beginning of the list.

If you hold the CONTROL key down and click on a song in the right panel, that song is moved to the insertion point. This option can be used to change the order of the song. With just the CONTROL key down, the new insertion point is set just below the song that moved. With both SHIFT and CONTROL down, the new insertion point is just above the song that moved. Geeks (like me) will love these Insertion Point features. Normal people can just click songs in the left panel in the correct order!

Playing Selected Songs

Click the "Play List" button at the bottom left of the Song List window to play your selected song list in the order selected. If you have not selected any songs, then the entire song list (in left panel) will play in order.

Saving Song Lists

After selecting some songs, you can click the "Save List" button at the bottom right of the Song List window to save this list into a new ".dtso" file. Note that song categories are not saved (see below for how to add them). Audio CD files ".dtcd" cannot be saved in a ".dtso" file.

Web developers will be familiar with the concept of "Relative" URL's. Normally, ".dtso" files are saved with "Absolute" URL's pointing the full location of the file on your hard drive. If all the files in your selected song list are in the same folder or a subfolder of the folder you choose when saving the song list, then you can save the list with Relative URL's.

To save a song list with relative URL's hold the CONTROL key down and click the "Save List" button. If all the songs aren't in the ".dtso" folder or its subfolders, you'll get a save error: "ERROR!! xx songs not relative".

Note that you can't move a ".dtso" file which contains relative URL's to another folder without moving all the songs in that file to the same folder. If you try, you will get "File Not Found" errors when you try to play the list.

Relative .dtso files are useful if you want to produce a collection of songs with a relative ".dtso" file. I did this with all the Diversi-Tune songs by zipping them into the file at http://members.cox.net/diversi-tune/s.zip This file contains a file named "dt.dtso" which is a relative Song List file that references the other song files in s.zip. When you unzip the s.zip file (with subfolders), these files will then be in the proper relative location to the dt.dtso file.

You can also save the entire "Primary" song list by clicking the "Save List" button with no songs selected. This saves the original list in the left panel, including headings. You can use this feature to convert a song list from relative to absolute (or vice-versa). It is also useful for consolodating multiple song lists together (with headings).

Editing Song List Files (.dtso)

".dtso" files are text files that you can edit with a text editor if you're careful. From Windows Explorer, right click a ".dtso" file (after you save one as described above). You should see a popup menu with the option to open the file with "Wordpad". Click this option and Wordpad should open the file.

The ".dtso" file format is as follows

{Optional Song Category}
Song Name<song URL>

To add song categories, insert category names into the file between curly brackets { }. Look at the "dt.dtso" file with Wordpad for an example.

The "Save List" button only saves song lists with absolute "File" urls, which are local on your disk drive. However, Diversi-Tune works with any URL. You can create a song list with your favorite songs around the web, for example. Then you can run the ".dtso" file and Diversi-Tune will load the songs from the web. For example:

Younger Than Springtime<http://www.divtune.com/s/younger_.mid>

(Note that for files ending with "_.mid" you can leave off the "_.mid" part if you wish)

Karaoke (.kar) Files

Diversi-Tune plays Karaoke files that end with the ".kar" suffix. There are thousands and thousands of these files available on the Internet. ".kar" files are the same as ".mid" files but with the words to the song saved as individual midi text "events" in the midi file.

When you play a .kar file with Diversi-Tune, it converts these midi text events into the Diversi-Tune format, which is a straight text format. You can see the results of this conversion with SHIFT-CONTROL-STOP button. The Diversi-Tune information can then be edited, if desired, and the file can then be saved with the Diversi-Tune information embedded in the file.

All the Diversi-Tune information is saved as a single text string at the beginning of the ".kar" (or .mid) file, and the file name suggested will end with "_.kar". This file can then be played with Diversi-Tune or any other ".kar" player. Note that if Diversi-Tune words are embedded in a "_.kar" file, the midi text events are ignored, and the Diversi-Tune information is used. This way, you can edit the Diversi-Tune information to take advantage of the many new features not available in "kar" files.

The Word Wrap setting is used by the .kar file converter when creating the Diversi-Tune text string from the "kar" midi text events. This word wrapping becomes a permanent part of the _.kar file when it is saved with the Diversi-Tune information. That is, if a user plays this file with word wrap off, he will still see the same wrapping that you chose when you first loaded the original .kar file and saved it as a _.kar file.

Once a file contains the Diversi-Tune words string, then the user's word wrap setting is only used to display the file. That is, the text in a Diversi-Tune string is not re-wrapped when it is saved.

Tune1000 (.mid) Files

Some midi files contains words embedded in the midi file as "Lyric" events. The sequencer, Cakewalk, can create this type of file, however the only major source if this kind of file that I know of is the Tune1000 company, now running under the name of EatSleepMusic. They have a large catalog of Tune1000 midi karaoke files available for sale at: http://www.eatsleepmusic.com

Tune1000 files behave exactly like .kar files, described above, when you play them with Diversi-Tune.

Audio CDs

The new ability to show the words to an existing audio CD is one of the most exciting new features of Diversi-Tune! This is a major new advance in the enjoyment of music. One of the best things about this feature is that you hear the actual music from the CD, and not a midi file cover version of a song. Once you've listened to a CD while watching the words, you really miss seeing the words on other CDs.

Diversi-Tune uses a new file type I call a "Diversi-Tune CD Audio Words File". These files end with ".dtcd". Each ".dtcd" file goes with a specific Audio CD file.

To play an audio CD, you first need to obtain the corresponding ".dtcd" file which contains the words for the songs on that CD. The ".dtcd" files that I have created so far are available at http://www.divtune.com/dtcd.htm. See if you have one of the CDs that go with these files. Note that I haven't finished bouncing all the songs on all the CDs.

To play an audio CD, insert the CD in your computer CD drive, and run the CD file that goes with that CD.

If you don't have any of the CDs, you can get an idea of how it works by putting in any audio CD. The words won't go with the CD, but at least it will play. You should see a warning message that you don't have the correct CD inserted.

Opening an audio CD file (.dtcd) clears the current song list, unless you specify "Append New Song List To Old" in the Setup menu.

For more information on creating new ".dtcd" files from audio CDs, see the Advanced Information.

Ball Synchronization

When Only One Song Is Off

Sometime the ball synchronization for a specific song may be off. That is, the ball appears ahead or behind the music. You can correct this by adjusting the start time of the first bounce. Hold the control key down and press the left or right arrow keys until the ball is in sync with the music. Press Control+SPACE to reset the time offset to 0. Note that these keys are also used to adjust individual bounce times (after pressing Control+DOWN to select the bounce to adjust). Click STOP first, if needed, to go back to adjusting the ball synchronization. You can then save the adjustment into the song file by saving the song with Control+S or File/Save As.

When All Songs Are Off (Latency)

On some computer systems, the ball may be consistently ahead or behind the music due to varying time delays in the generation of sounds (latency). This happens very rarely, but if you do have the problem, you can get the ball in sync with the music as follows:

First start a song playing which has a bouncing ball displayed. Hold the SHIFT-CONTROL-ALT keys down with your left hand and press the RIGHT or LEFT arrow keys repeatedly with your right hand until the ball is in sync with the song. Each time you press an arrow key, the ball will move 50 msec forward or backward. To reset the offset back to 0 (normal), press SHIFT-CONTROL-ALT-<Space Bar>.

Note that the ball synchronization offset value is saved, and then restored the next time you start Diversi-Tune. Also, Diversi-Tune saves a different synchronization offset value for audio CDs, MP3's, and mid/kar files.

Printing Words

Diversi-Tune has a different set of words for each panel. To print the words in a panel, you first copy them to the Windows clipboard, and then paste them into a word processor. Note that this works for the web version as well as Divtune.exe.

1. Hold the SHIFT and CONTROL keys down, and click on the panel with the words you want (usually there is only one panel, so you'll just be clicking on the words to the song.

2. The words for that panel will appear in a text window with all the words selected. Hold the control key down, and press the "C" key to copy these words to the clipboard (control-C). If all the words aren't all select, first select them by pressing control-A and then control-C to copy them to the clipboard.

3. Start your Word Processor program (you can use Wordpad at Start/Programs/Accessories/Wordpad). Click your mouse on the text area of the Word Processor and press control-V to paste the words from the clipboard to the Word Processor.

4. Reformat the words with your word processor if you wish, and print them (File/Print or control-P).

Uninstalling

To uninstall Diversi-Tune, click the Windows Start button, and go to: Start/Settings/Control Panel. Then double click Add/Remove Programs. Find "Diversi-Tune" in the list of programs, and click it, which will highlight it. Then, click the "Add/Remove" button.

When the box appears asking "Remove Diversi-Tune?" click Yes. Very quickly, the OK box appears saying Diversi-Tune has been removed from the registry. If you made Diversi-Tune your midi or kar player, then the original players (if any) are restored.

The Divtune.exe file, and all the songs you may have downloaded, as well as the Diversi-Tune folder (if created), are not removed by the Diversi-Tune Uninstallation routine. If you wish, you may delete all the .dtcd and .dtso files you have created or downloaded, as well as the Divtune.exe file. Otherwise, you can keep Divtune.exe and re-install Diversi-Tune later by double clicking it in the future.

Note that unlike most Windows programs, Divtune.exe is the install program, the run program, and the uninstall program all in one. There are no other program files, dll's, or anything else to worry about.

MP3 Files NEW!

Diversi-Tune (Divtune.exe Version 2) now plays MP3 format song files with words in time with the music. MP3 files are much larger than MID files, but they are compressed versions of actual recordings, just like you would hear on an Audio CD. To play MP3 files with Diversi-Tune, you need to have the proper Windows mp3 driver installed. If you see a "MP3 Driver" error message when trying to play an MP3 file with Diversi-Tune, you will need to install the MP3 drivers by installing Microsoft Windows Media Player at www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download

Diversi-Tune stores the words to an MP3 file inside the file (at the end of the file). If Diversi-Tune words are present in an MP3 file, the file will usually end with "_.mp3". When you play one of these files with Diversi-Tune, the words and bouncing ball will appear just like with mid, or kar files.

Most MP3 files you run across probably will not have Diversi-Tune words embedded in them (hopefully this will change soon!). To make adding words to MP3 files easier, Diversi-Tune now includes support for the new ".dtwd" format, which stores the words to the MP3 file separately from the MP3 file. Once you have a "dtwd" file that goes with your MP3 file, you can now save the words into the MP3 file as follows:

1. Play the original MP3 file (not the dtwd file).
2. Choose menu option "File/Load Words From .dtwd File" or press Shift+Control+O.
3. Choose the correct .dtwd file that goes with these words.
4. Now play the song, and the words and ball should appear.
5. Adjust the ball sync using control+LEFT_ARROW and control+RIGHT_ARROW keys until the ball is exactly in time with the music (this is usually not needed if the .dtwd file was created with the same MP3 file).
6. Choose menu option "File/Save As" or press Control-S to save the file as a "_.mp3" file with embedded words. Note that the suggested save file name matches the original MP3 file name, except for the "_.mp3" ending. Also, spaces are replaced with "-" minus signs and non-alphanumeric charcters are removed. This allows the files to be saved on the members.aol.com server, as well as almost any other server.
7. You now will have 2 MP3 files: the original ".mp3" file, and the new "_.mp3" file with words. You can delete the original mp3 file if desired. Since the words are now saved inside the "_.mp3" file, you can also delete the .dtwd file.

Note: If you put the .dtwd file in the same folder as the MP3 file, and the filenames match, the .dtwd file will automatically load when you play the MP3 file (step 2 and 3 become automatic). This way, you can post or send a matching "dtwd" file that goes with MP3 files that you have already distributed. ".dtwd" filenames are also modified to work on the member.aol.com server by replacing spaces with "-" minus signs. These modified filenames still will match the original MP3 file with spaces.

Creating MP3 Files From Audio CD's

This is sometimes called "Ripping and Encoding". The best program I've found for doing this is MusicMatch Jukebox (MMJB) available at www.musicmatch.com Use the "Record" feature of this program to turn the tracks of your audio CD's directly into mp3 files. Note that Diversi-Tune will only play MP3 files with bitrates of 96Kbps or above. I recommend using the standard 128Kbps rate when creating MP3 files with MMJB.

Once you have MP3 files of all your Audio CD Tracks using MMJB, you can now add Diversi-Tune words if the .dtwd files are available. Fortunately, I've already created words for hundreds of songs which go with audio CD's (see the audio CD page at: www.divtune.com/dtcd See below for instructions on creating ".dtwd" files from the ".dtcd" files stored on the Audio CD page.

.dtwd (words) Files NEW!

The new format, .dtwd. files are text files which contain the words to a Diversi-Tune song. While playing a song, you can save the words to that song by choosing menu option: "File/Save Words As .dtwd File" or press Shift+Control+S. This works for all types of song files with Diversi-Tune words, including "_.mid"," _.kar", "_.mp3", and ".dtcd" files.

The ".dtwd" file format is useful mostly to add words to existing MP3 files. MP3 are typically over 3 Megabytes, so to download a whole new MP3 file that you already have, just to get the Diversi-Tune words, would be highly inefficient. With ".dtwd" files, you need only transfer the words, which are typically under 2,000 bytes total. Once you have the .dtwd file, you can then add these words to the corresponding MP3 file as described in the MP3 section above.

Diversi-Tune supports the playing of Audio CD's in your computer disk drive, in sync with words which come from the ".dtcd" file which goes with that specific Audio CD. If you have an MP3 file which was created from this same Audio CD, then you can use the words from the ".dtcd" file to add to the MP3 file as follows:

1. Play the correct ".dtcd" file (from www.divtune.com/dtcd ) which contains the track that matches your MP3 file. Note that you don't need to insert the Audio CD. Just leave the CD drive empty and ignore the "No Audio CD" error messages.
2. Go to the Song List and select only the song that matches your MP3 file, and click Play List.
3. When the correct song words come up, choose menu option: "File/Save Words As .dtwd File" or press Shift+Control+S.
4. The suggested name will match the ".dtcd" file, but not necessarily match the MP3 file you want. If you want the ".dtwd" file to match the MP3 file so it will load automatically when you play that file, find the MP3 file in the File Dialog, and click it once. Then click "Save". That is, you try to save the ".dtwd" file as the same "mp3" file. Normally, this isn't a good idea, but have faith! The File Dialog will tell you that the file "Already Exists / Do you want to replace it?" Have faith and click "Yes". A new File Dialog "Must End With .dtwd" will appear, now with the name of the ".dtwd" file that will match your MP3 file and load automatically. Click "Save" and the resulting .dtwd file will now load automactically when you play the MP3 file.
5. Finally, play the MP3 file (I usually close Diversi-Tune and double click the MP3 file directly from Windows Explorer). Now load the words (if they didn't load automatically) and save the MP3 file with words as a "_.mp3" file with the suggested name.
