Ruthie Basham

Be empty to become full again
Scars are 10 times stronger than skin
Sunlight cracks dirt open so water gets in
A seed, an embryo, fights its way out and green
Opens into a flower that breathes, weaves, and
Falls to earth, changing shadow to light again
Wind carves stories into rocks
One hand covers a tiny flame until
Limitless patterns spread, igniting many webs
Into ONE HEART BEATING

WE ARE ALL CELLS IN ONE BODY--So Alive Art

Poem by Ruth Basham, inspired by the work of Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estes

Ruth Basham has evolved So Alive Art for the past 10 years after graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Michigan with a BFA in Drawing and Painting. She was the recipient of the Bachelor of Fine Arts Award, given to one senior per granduating class. Inspired by nature, diversity, holistic health and wellness, green technology, and collaborative art, Ruth renders hand-made creations for a variety of endeavors to meet the wishes of her international clientele. Personalized Drawings, Paintings, Screen-Printed Art on Organic Clothing, Port;raits, Business Logos, Business Logo Redesign, Book Covers, CD Covers, Mandalas, Book Illustrations, and Art Workshops are ways that So Alive Art takes shape. Ruth's clients are organic farmers, movement instructors, store designers, corporate leaders, fashion writers, comedians, actors, teachers, holistic healthcare practitioners, artists, poets, midwives, psychologists, musicians; they are children, teens, adults, mothers, fathers, and seniors all seeking to communicate a visual message of balance, hope, good health, and a commitment to being truly ALIVE.

Fascinated by how symbolic language plays a deep role in our psyche, Ruth seeks to remind each client of the innate balance that exists within them just as the natural world balances the elements surrounding us. Symbolic art reminds us of our wholeness and of the interconnectedness of life. The artists of indiginous cultures are seen as the translator between the natural world and the human world. Their work is a teacher for communities to be at peace with each other, to highlight cross-cultural similarities, to break barriers of ignorance, to be in the flow of our intuition, and to respect nature and the cycles of life. So Alive Art seeks to embody and communicate these values.

In our consuming modern world, So Alive Art breathes a green message. All work is created on acid-free paper using a non-toxic medium of oil-based colored pencils. Screen-printed art is printed with water-based inks on organic or recycled clothing. Ruth's clients often use her work to promote their own green message. What is your message, your pattern, your story that is uniquely yours? What gift do you have to share with the world? Can I help you to see your gift and to weave it into a pattern of shadows and light so that it takes shape?
